In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War's end, Spencer will be hosting a grand celebration. Running from August 28 through September 1, the celebration honors those who have given some or all for what they believe in. Presented by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, The Moving Wall will be on display at the Spencer Baseball Field from Thursday, August 28 at noon to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2. The wall is a half-size replica of the memorial found in Washington D.C. Still stretching over 250 feet long, more than 58,200 men and women are paid tribute to on the display. Traveling since October 1984, the Moving Wall aims to bring the powerful feeling of visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in D.C. to a wider audience. First concepted by John Devitt when he visited the original Memorial, he and other volunteers, some of which being Veterans of the war themselves, constructed a replica of the wall. The Wall is a powerful reminder of those who gave their everything for the world we live in now. They are much more than just a collective number. Each and every name presented on the memorial has their own unique story to tell. There will be a program, also on Thursday at 7 p.m., dedicated to Gerald Hamilton, a Spencer native who served in the Vietnam War. The program will be presented by speaker Roma Amundson, a retired Brigadier General. There will be a Football game and the Gerald Hamilton Flag Retirement the following day on Friday. If you would like to get involved in some way, contact any of the event organizers. • Tracy Goech - 402-340-1202 • Steph Boettcher - 402-336-7577 • Kari Klumpe - 308-883-0897 Let us all come together to honor these heroes who gave all they had.
