Tigers Off To Good

Start On Season

The Ewing Tigers are off to a good start this season as of Dec. 10 the Tigers were 4-1.

The Tigers opened up their season  downing the Neligh/Oakdale Warriors in season opener. Leading scorers for the Tigers were Jake Walton with 22 points and five steals; Tad Fry 10 points and six rebounds, two steals and two assists; Blake Cunningham nine points, seven rebounds and  Damian Summers four points and seven assists.

“We played well in the first half to build a 35-14 lead at halftime.  Overall, in the second half we did not play well at either end of the floor.  We had good aggression defensively and offensively in the first half,” said Coach Appleby.

In the Tigers second game of the season they faced Spalding/Spalding Academy. Leading sorers for the Tigers were Blake Cunningham with 14 points, Tad Fry with 12 points and Jake Watlon with eight points.

“Spalding/Spalding Academy is a very good team that really took it to us. They have great depth and really play at a fast tempo and we were not able to keep up with theizqr defensive or offensive intensity.  We continue to have injuries to three of our top players and depth is a problem that we must overcome.  We will continue to work on our deficiencies and plan for improvement,” said Coach Appleby.

In the next match the Tigers edged out CWC 47-40. Leading scorers were Jake Walton with 13 points; Blake Cunningham with 11 points and seven rebounds; Ben Ramold with nine points and five assists and Tad Fry with eight points and four rebounds. Robert Nordby had four rebounds and Damian Summers had four steals. “I was proud of the way our boys fought back in the second half to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit. "We played with much more of a sense of urgency offensively and defensively in the second half and had good possessions on both ends of the floor. Tad Fry and Robert Nordby provided some depth at the post off the bench and battled through some injuries to contribute to the victory.  As a team we only had seven turnovers which was a positive,"commented coach Greg Appleby.

On Thursday. Dec. 6 the Tigers bested Allen winning 44-32. Leading scorers in the game were Blake Cunningham with 13 points and five assists; Robert Nordby 10 points and eight rebounds and Jake Walton nine points and three steals. Damian Summers had seven rebounds and Ben Ramold had six rebounds.

“We were able to win this game despite not shooting well from the field or from the free throw line.  We had good intensity on defense and fought hard on the glass throughout the game. A good third quarter was the difference in the game as we were able to get the ball inside and get some finishes near the hoop.  We are happy to advance to 3-1 on the young season,” said Coach Appleby.
