Base salaries for county elected officials serving for the 2015-18 term were set by Holt County Board of Supervisors during their regular meeting Dec. 17.

The wage changes will take place in 2015 when the new four-year terms begin. According to Board of Supervisor member Bill Tielke, the wage increases for all of the county officials will amount to less than .00323 cents on the county tax levy.

The Supervisors approved a resolution setting the 2015 salaries of the County Assessor, County Clerk, Clerk of the District Court, County Sheriff and County Treasurer at $55,000 annually, an increase of about 20 percent from $46,200 the officials received in 2011.

The Sheriff also will be compensated $4,000 per year for the management, supervision and oversight of the Holt County Jail and the Boyd/Holt County E-911 communication center. This amount remained the same as 2011.

The County Surveyor's salary will be $11,000 (20 percent of the $55,000 base annually) for 2015, a 25 percent increase from $8,800 (20 percent of $44,000) in 2011.

Compared to counties close to the same population, Holt County is average. Salaries for elected officials in Wayne County were set at $53,000 for 2015, Knox County at $55,000 and Hamilton County at $53,814.

The salary of the County Attorney will be $100,000 annually, almost a 30 percent increase from $77,000 in 2011. The County Public Defender's salary will be $50,000 annually in 2015, a 42 percent increase from $35,200 in 2011.

The county officials received an annual increase during their terms of office in 2012 and 2013 and will again this year based on the Consumer Price Index as established by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.

The Holt County Board of Supervisors' salaries were set at $14,400 annually for 2015, up about 18 percent from the 2011-12 amount of
