Summerfest To Be Held This Weekend In O'Neill

CASA MEETING - Monica Huber (left) executive director of CASA, addresses Holt County Supervisors during the June 30th meeting. Huber requested a 5 percent increase in funding, which will be used to create to-go backpacks for children who need to be removed from home immediately. Supervisors unanimously approved the request, with funding coming from Opioid settlement monies.

O'Neill's annual Summerfest celebration is here again. Thursday, July 17. The day is a warm-up for what is to come later.

The celebration officially kicks off at 9 a.m. on Thursday with a duck hunt downtown. 

At 7 p.m., the activities include an Elvis tribute artist, Joseph Hall, who will provide a show at the O'Neill Community Center.

This Friday, July 18, the O'Neill Chamber will hold a coffee at the Carroll McKay rodeo arena.

At 7 p.m., the Summerfest Rodeo at Carrol McKay Arena opens it's doors. The rodeo will have Mutton Busting during the intermission. After the rodeo, local bars will provide entertainment. 

Saturday, July 19, Sidewalk Sales begin at 8 a.m., followed by the Tractor Show, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Great Plains Parking lot, located at their new facility at 620 East Douglas. The Corn Husker 2-cylinder club will be part of the show. From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Vendor Fair will be held in Ford Park. The Car Show registration will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. From noon, the annual Car Show will be held on the streets by the O'Neill Swimming Pool.

At noon, the historical trolley tour will begin. From 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., there will be free swimming at the O'Neill Pool.

The Summerfest Rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The intermission of this performance will be Wiener Dog Races. Anyone with a Wiener Dog is encouraged to attend and enter their sausage hound. More information on the race can be had by calling Lauri at the O'Neil Chamber Office.

The Big Summerfest Concert will be held on Saturday, starting at 8:30 p.m., with the Sunset Sinners taking the Stage. At 10 p.m., the star attraction, Sam Barber, will go on Stage at the Community Center.

Sunday, July 21, wraps up this year's Summerfest with just a few more places to visit. There will be a Church in the park at Ford Park, featuring a live performance from Legacy Five. After Church In The Park,  there will be a BBQ Lunch at Ford Park at 11:30.

This year's Summerfest will feature numerous fun events, so be sure to visit as many as you can!
