St. Mary's Boys Advance To District Action

The St. Mary's boys varsity improved their record to 24-0 with two sub-district victories this past week. 

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Cardinals took  on North Central in Neligh and defeated them 57-40. St. Mary's got off to a slow start as the Knights hit some key shots to keep the halftime score at 26-22. St. Mary's then took charge of the game in the third quarter. Sophomore Adam Moon led the Cardinal offense with 21 points and was followed closely by senior Tait Sibbel with 20. Moon also led the rebounding with 13 boards while Sibbel and Tom Chvala added six caroms each. Ty Eiler and Tyler Timmerman led the ball handling with eight and five assists respectively. Sibbel was the defensive leader with nine steals while Moon and Chvala added two blocked shots each.

On Thursday the Spartans of West Boyd and the Cardinals locked up their third hard-fought contest of the season and the Cardinals prevailed again 55-48. The Spartans had 10-1 and 22-11 leads early before the Cards pulled close at halftime 29-28. The Cardinals were able to take a 42-32 lead in the second half only to see West Boyd tie the contest at 47. Tait Sibbel and Adam Moon again led the offense with 21 points each. Junior point guard Ty Eiler also hit for double figures with 11 tallies. Moon led the rebounding with 11 while Tom Chvala pulled down seven boards. Assist leaders were Eiler with nine and Tyler Timmerman with five. On defense Moon recorded two steals and one blocked shot.
