Primary Election Notice Of Offices To Be Filled

2026 is the year for new elections to take place. The Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, May 12. 2026. The deadline for filings for offices on this year's ballots are Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026 at 5 p.m. for the incumbents and Monday March 2, 2026 at 5 p.m. for non-incumbents. An Incumbent is anyone serving in an elective office, even if they are filing for an office other than the one in which they are presently serving.

The offices up for re-election this year are; United States Senator which is a six year term, Congress representative third district which is a two year team, Governor which is a four year term, Secretary of State a four year term, State Treasurer a four year term, Attorney General a four year term, Auditor of Public Accounts a four year term, County Assessor a four year term, County Attorney a four year term, County Clerk a four year term, Clerk of the District Court a four year term, County Sheriff a four year term, County Surveyor a four year term, County Treasurer a four year term, Public Defender a four year term, The County Supervisors in District 1, District 3, District 5 and District 7 are up this year which are all four year terms, Legislature- District 40 a four year term, State Board of Education- District 7 a four year term, Northeast Community College- District 2 a four year term, Lower Niobrara Natural Resource District- Subdistricts #1-8 & at Large a four year term, Upper Elkhorn Natural Resource District- Subdistricts #1-5 & at Large a four year term, Nebraska Public Power District- Subdivision 2 a six year term, City of Atkinson Mayor and Council both four year terms, Airport Authority- Atkinson a six year term, Airport Authority- Stuart a six year term, City of O'Neill Mayor and Council- Ward I, II, III & IV all four year terms, O'Neill Airport Authority a six year term, Member Board of Education School Dist #137 Chambers, School Dist #7 O'Neill, School Dist #44 Stuart, School Dist #239 West Holt, School Dist #51 Boyd Co., School Dist #100 Burwell, School Dist #45 Wheeler Central, Summerland Public School and Verdigre Public School all four year terms.

Notice is also given that the 2026 General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. The 2026 General Election filing deadlines for such offices are: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. for incumbents and Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. for non-incumbents. 

Offices to filled for the General Election: Judges' Retention; PPD's (less than $40 Million); ESU 1, 8 & 10; Weed Board; Township Boards; and Village Boards.
