The O'Neill Eagles football nudged the visiting Valentine Badgers, 7-6 in Friday's non-league bout.
Each team only managed one score. O'Neill scored in the third quarter and kicked for a successful extra point, while Valentine scored in the fourth quarter, but failed to add to the six point score.
Leading the Eagles offense was Landon Classen with 13 passes for 139 yards and 12 carries for 30 yards; Porter Mathews seven carries for 31 yards; Pryor Mathews four carries for five yards; and Walker Peter five receptions for 87 yards including one for a touchdown.
Leading the defense were Peter with eight tackles; Porter Mathews seven tackles; Classen six tackles; Reese Grosch and Tucker Shabram, each with five tackles; Pryor Mathews four tackles; Alex Molina and Drew Morrow, each with three tackles; and Grady Welke, Easton Cook and Colton Osborne, each with one tackle.
In their next game, the Eagles clash with the Pierce Bluejays in a C1 District 4 bout, on Friday, Sept. 30. O'Neill will attempt to move on its 3-2 season record. The Bluejays enter the bout with a 5-0 record after their 58-6 league win over Wayne.
