O'Neill Edged Out 15-13 At Ord

The O'Neill Eagles traveled to Ord last Friday evening to face the Chanticleers.

The Eagles had a slow start in the first half with Ord scoring 15 unanswered points to a struggling Eagle defense.

In the second half the Eagle offense took control of the ball and the field with the offensive line making crucial blocks and showing good execution. The Eagle defense played well in the second half stopping Ord from advancing the score in the second half.

With 4:17 on the clock in the fourth quarter the Eagles down by two were marching towards the goal-line and had the Ord linemen on their heals when the game was halted do to lightning. After 30 minutes of recoop time for Ord both teams took back to the field.

The Eagles fumbled the first snap but regained their composure and on the next play Tate Laursen ran in for the touchdown only to have it called back due to a holding call. The Eagles couldn't get in the end zone and with no time left the game ended with Ord controlling the ball and the Eagles taking a bitter loss of 15-13.

"The O'Neill Eagles suffered a very tough loss last week against a solid Ord team.  We started out extremely slow this game both defensively and offensively and they scored all of their 15 points in the first half.  The second half we started playing very aggressive defensively and we took over the line of scrimmage.  Offensively we did not handle their line very well and they got penetration on a lot of our plays.  We also hurt ourselves and dug some holes with costly and untimely penalties, which made for some 1 and 15 and 3 and 20 plays.  We need to step up our line play this week offensively and execute with a lot more speed this week in order to compete with a very sound Boone Central team.  We cannot afford to only have 37 offensive plays compared to our opponent having 64, it just doesn't add up.  I was proud of our overall heart, determination and fight throughout the ball game giving ourselves a couple of opportunities at the end of the game that could have went either way.  We will go back to work again this week and get after practice again while preparing for another battle this week in Albion," said Coach Brock Eichelberger.

Leading the Eagles in offense were Tate Laursen with 15 carries for 67 yards and one touchdown and Tyler Knopp with  one touchdown on a punt return.

Leading the receivers for the Eagles were Derrick Hostert with two receptions for 17 yards and Tate Laursen with one catch for 6 yards.

Leading defensive players for the Eagles were Riley Cohon with16, Tate Laursen with 14 and David Fox with 11 tackles.
