OHS Golfers Heading To State

On Monday the O'Neill Golf team traveled to Columbus to compete in the B-1 District golf meet held at Quail Run. It was a beautiful day for golf with sunny conditions and little to no wind. The boys got off to a bit of a slow start with most of the team sitting right at bogey golf through the first 4-5 holes. The kids started to settle into the round after that and started to play like they have played all year. After nine holes it was a tight 4 team battle for three spots that qualify for state. O'Neill was sitting in third trailing Gretna and Norris by five strokes and leading Columbus Lakeview by four strokes. The back nine was much of the same as the Eagles were able to compete hard and improve on the front nine and finish the day with a team score of 336. Norris won the team title shooting a very impressive 222. O'Neill was able to make up enough ground on Gretna to grab the second spot. Gretna was only two strokes back shooting a 338. "We had consistent scores from all five players, which has been the strength of this team all year," commented Coach Buller. "I was very impressed with how the guys hung in there and competed well even if they were not shooting the kind of scores they thought they should be shooting. They battled hard and all of their hard work over this past year paid off. I am very proud of their accomplishments this year." Leading the Eagles individually was Dalton Jackson who shot an 83 and placed eighth. Cody Belzer also shot an 83 and placed ninth. Blake Bauer shot an 84 and placed 10th. Luke Loecker and Nolan Swanson rounded out the scoring for the Eagles both shooting 86.

The Eagles will take this momentum to state, which takes place on May 24 and 25 at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney Nebraska.
