Noma was born on Nov. 29, 1938, in Arlington, to Elmer Sr. and Ida (Evans) Becker. She spent her childhood in Plainview, Inman and Lynch. Noma married the love of her life, George Courtney, Jr., on Jan. 17, 1958. The couple lived in Norfolk for a time but made their home in Lynch. Three children were born to their union Monette, Marty and Georgia. Beyond her devotion to her family, Noma was proud to serve the Lynch community through her work in several local businesses. She was a familiar and friendly presence in the Lynch community for decades. She delighted in playing cards with friends, listening to live music and sharing time with George. Noma especially cherished selecting meaningful gifts for her grandchildren and eventually her great-grandchildren, finding her deepest joy in giving to others. Noma will be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit and the joy she found in giving to others. Her love lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family that she cherished so deeply. To honor Noma's life, the family invites you to carry forward her spirit by performing an act of kindness for someone in need or simply because.
