2026 OHS Graduate - Porter Mathews This year's Shrine Bowl will be played Saturday, June 6 at 4 p.m. in Kearney at UNK Cope Stadium.
Playing from our area is Porter Mathews, a 6'2”, 200 lb. defensive back who recently graduated from O'Neill High School. Mathews will be wearing number 18 when he takes the field playing for the North Team
The North Team is being coached by head coach Kameron Lenhart of Bennington and assistant coaches Kurt Altig, North Platte; Troy Schlueter, Arlington; Tony Kobza, Raymond Central; Jim Clarkson, Clarson-Leigh; Brandon Mimick, Bennington; and Zach Byrd, Fort Calhoun.
As a safety for the Eagles, Mathews was a consistent force on the field, collecting numerous accolades including Rookie of the Year and both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors. His most memorable football moment was against Scotus, where he caught a pass and hurdled a defender on his way to the end zone. Mathews's favorite subject was Building Trades, reflecting his passion for construction and working with his hands. A fun fact about Mathews is that he loves the physical nature of football.
He plans to obtain a degree in ag business and ag precision. Porter is the son of Chad and Lori Mathews of O'Neill.
