Lady Cards Take Fourth At NVC

The St. Mary's Cardinals were in Niobrara Valley Conference Tournament play this past week. The tournament began Tuesday, Oct. 19 where the first match found the Cards in a battle with the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack. The Cards fought some tough battles in the first two sets, but unfortunately, just missed the goal. The third set the Cards finally found their groove, easily winning this one, but the tables were turned in the fourth set when the Wolfpack just as easily claimed the set and match. The Cards were on the losing side at the end of the night, 24-26, 25-27, 25-17 and 15-25. Leading the Cards were Mya Hedstrom with 29 kills, two blocks, 22 digs and one assist; Lorissa Reiman 19 kills, two aces and 21 digs; Emma Winkelbauer three kills, two blocks and seven digs; Alissa Brabec two kills, 15 digs and 46 assists; Joslyn Eby one kill, one block and two digs; Emma Otte one kill, 12 digs and six assists; and Hope Williamson 31 digs and one assist. Tournament play continued on Friday when the Cards came up against the Stuart Broncos. This was also quite a battle and went all five sets. The Cards had a hard-fought battle for the winning score in the first two sets, but were sitting on the losing side at the end of the night, 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 17-25 and 9-15. On Monday, Oct. 25 the Lady Cards faced Wynot at the sub-district in Stuart. The Lady Cards lost to Wynot in three sets 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-20.
