Lady Cards Go To District Game With Win Over Wynot

The St.Mary's Lady Cardinals have made it through their subdistricts winning over the CWC girls on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 56-40.

The 12-12 Lady Renegades gave it their all playing tough knowing that this is the time of year to do or die.

The Cards had their work cut out for them as the Renegades led the Cards by three at the end of the first stanza. The Cards got their defense going and and hit some buckets to tie the game at the half at 22.

The Lady Cards pounded the Renegades in the third holding them to four points and putting up 23 to heal their wounds from the first half. CWC again tried to save themselves holding the Cards to 11 in the fourth but the Cards moved on with the 16 point win.

Mya Hedstrom had a whopping 26 points shooting 10 of 20 under the net and one of three in three pointers. Mya shot three from the charity stripe and had nine rebounds and seven steals; Alissa Brabec had 10 points, shooting two three pointers, one two pointer and two free throws; Brabec had one rebound and four steals; Lorissa Reiman had 10 points, 14 rebounds and three steals; Hope Williamson five points and three rebounds; and Charley Mlnarik five points and five rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals faced their subdistrict nemicis on Thursday, Feb. 17 when Wynot came to town. The Lady Cards were ready for the match and came away with a 42-31 win.

The two teams played tough and were tied at nine with a little more than a mintue left in the first quarter. The Cards defense held its own holding the Blue Devils to four in the second quarter and put up 11 to lead at the half 23-15.

The Blue Devils chipped away at the Cards lead and half way through the third trailed by six. Brabec kept the Blue Devils at arms length with her three point shots shooting four of five for 80 percent and eight points under the bucket for 44 percent.

The Cards held their ground defensively for the last few mintues of the game for the win.

The girls will play Exeter-Milligan this Friday, Feb. 25 at Boone Central for the district final.

 Brabec led the Cards with 22 points, one rebound and four steals; Williamson seven points and two rebounds; Reiman six points and four rebounds; Hedstrom five points, six rebounds and five steals; and Annabelle Barlow two points one rebound and two steals
