James "Jim" Bruce Sprigler, 89, of O'Neill, died Tuesday Dec. 30, 2025 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.

Services will be held at a later date in the summer.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of the arrangements.

James was born April 16, 1936 in Deadwood, SD to Alfred and Lucille (McDonnell) Sprigler. Jim grew up in Deadwood and attended Deadwood High School. He graduated with the class of 1952. 

After high school Jim enlisted into the United States Marines and was stationed in Okinawa Japan and El Toro CA.

Jim met Martha Lu Geis while he was attending college at Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD, he was studying to be a livestock nutritionist.  Jim and Martha moved to Gillette, and were married on June 14, 1958 and started their family.  To this union five children were born James, Tim, Mary, Diahn and Tara. They moved to various places around the Midwest until they decided to settle in Nebraska. Jim retired around 2000.

He enjoyed fishing, wood working and working in his garden and greenhouse. Jim enjoyed writing poems and short stories along with reading history books and watching westerns. He also enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years Martha Sprigler of Norfolk; his four children James (Elaine) Sprigler of Longview, Texas, Timothy (Beth) Sprigler of Emporia, KS, Diahn (Dan) Pekny of Norfolk and Tara (Bill) Price of O'Neill; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law Joan Sprigler of Minneapolis, MN, Carol Sprigler of Laurel, MT,  and Elizabeth Sprigler of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, five brothers and two sisters-in-law.
