Eagle Volleyball- Autumn Hilker taps one over the net in action against Battle Creek.

The O'Neill lady Eagles seem to be having a tough time this year, struggling to keep a steady pace in a lot of their games played. This past week, though, the Eagles proved they do have what it takes to make it to the top. They downed two of their three opponents, and the last one was a close match that could have gone to the Eagles had just a few less mistakes been committed.

The Battle Creek Braves were the Eagles first adversary. This was a pretty even match between the two teams, with the winner of each set going back and forth. The Eagles were able to come out on top though, ending the game in a close 3-2 final score; 27-29, 25-15, 25-19, 14-25 and 15-13.

Wreece Liewer helped lead her team to victory with 17 kills, two ace serves, 10 digs and seven set assists; Autumn Hilker nine kills, one block, 23 digs and two set assists; Ashley Sidak eight kills, one ace serve, 38 digs; Olivia Young six kills, one ace serve, two blocks, 17 digs and one set assist. Keeley Chavez one kill, one block, 22 digs and 22 set assists; Haley Schluns one kill, 15 digs and four set assists.

The Eagles next competition came in the form of the Norfolk Catholic Knights on Thursday. This was a well fought game by the Eagles, but the Knights were able to overpower the Eagles in the end and took the win.

The match ended in the Knights favor, 2-0; 20-25 and 14-25.

Liewer still at the top with 10 kills, two ace serves, nine digs and five set assists; Hilker four kills, seven digs and one set assist; Schluns two kills, six digs and one set assist; Chavez one kill, nine digs and nine set assists; Young one block, two digs and one set assist; Sidak one block and seven digs.

The next match against the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors on the same day turned out better for the Eagles. The Eagles really picked up their game here and hardly ever allowed the Warriors to go on the offensive.

The Eagles were able to get an easy victory here, downing the Warriors 2-0; 25-8 and 25-9.

Liewer for the third time last week led with nine kills, four ace serves, four digs and five set assists; Hilker five kills, one ace serve, one block and four digs; Sidak four kills, two blocks and four digs; Young one kill, three blocks, three digs and two set assists. Chavez one kill, five digs and eight set assists; Schluns one ace serve and seven digs.
