The O'Neill Eagles crossed into the new year with just two wins to their name. The first game of 2026 didn't go their way either. Last week was their chance to turn things around against two competitors. It was a home game against Boone Central on Friday that kicked the week's play off with the game going into double overtime and the Eagles coming up six points short. It was a slow start from the Eagles, just barely lagging behind in the first half. By the third quarter, the Eagles were down five points, but they still had half of the game to get things into place. By chance, they managed to pull ahead by five in the third and in the nail-biting "finale" both teams butted heads with 10 points, bringing the match into overtime. With immense pressure mounting, both teams were putting in their all, but it was clear they were almost even with each other, with both sides of the court putting up seven. With this rare turnout, the game was forced into double overtime. As devastating as it was for the home team, the Cardinals pushed ahead and managed to overtake this prolonged match. Turner Heiss was a game-changer with 20 points, shooting three of 17 three-pointers for 43% and five of eight two-pointers for 63%, as well as five rebounds and one steal; Ryder Kelly right behind with 20 points, one rebound and one steal; Braxen Eichelberger had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals; Porter Mathews had four points, 17 rebounds and three steals; Nate Brown had three points, one rebound and one steal; Colten Shoemaker had two points, three rebounds and one steal; and Maquire Heiss had one rebound. It was a slight fumble from the start, with the Indians taking the lead by two points. It wasn't until the following bout where the Eagles would be trounced 20-9, putting them in a tough spot for the remainder. Without the chance to ever attempt to catch back up, the Eagles were dropped by their opponent 4-0. Turner Heiss again led the offensive with 13 points, shooting one of one three-pointers for 100% and three of seven three-pointers for 43%, as well as six rebounds and two steals; Kelly had nine points, three rebounds and seven steals; Mathews had five points and three rebounds; Eichelberger had four points, one rebound and one steal; Shoemaker had two points and three rebounds; Cooper Mckay had two points and two rebounds; M. Heiss had two rebound; Brown had one rebound and three steals; and Brock Latzel and Tate Diediker both had one rebound each. OHS 6 9 14 6.......35 PHS 8 20 18 12.....58
