Eagles Fall To St. Paul 42-6

The O'Neill Eagles opened their 2022 football season with a 42-6 loss to the St. Paul Wildcats at home on Friday, Aug. 26.

The Eagles had a tough time getting going in the match, with St. Paul striking first when the Wildcats drove down to the Eagle's four-yard line. Cody Kuszak ran in a touchdown and Sam Kramer added the PAT for the Wildcat's 6-0 lead. 

The Wildcats dominated the ground game. Gage Sack ran in a nine-yard touchdown, and John Placke ran in a three-yard touchdown. Kramer kicked in both PATs to put the Wildcats up 21-0 at the half.

The third quarter saw Placke run in another touchdown from the goal line, and Brady Eichelberger caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Landon Classen to put the Eagles on the board.

The final score of the game came when Alex Meinecke ran in a three-yard touchdown, and Kramer sealed the game with the PAT.

Classen threw 19 times for 10 completions, 137 yards and one touchdown.

Leading the Eagles on the ground game was Porter Mathews with two carries for 51 yards; Pryor Mathews eight carries for 14 yards; Eichelberger three carries for six yards; and Clay Shaw one carry for four yards.

Drew Morrow led the Eagles with four catches for 50 yards; Walker Peter three catches for 23 yards; and Ryder Pokorny two catches for 14 yards. 

Dylan Parks led the Eagle defense with 12 tackles; Pryor Mathews nine tackles; Shaw and Classen four tackles; Pokorny and Tucker Shabram three tackles; Hunter Wilson, Eichelberger, and Dominic Hamilton two tackles; and Alex Molina, Turner Heiss, Grady Welke, Easton Cook, Braxen Sorensen, Reese Grosch, Maddox Hammerlun, Justin Sickles and Colton Osborne all with one tackle.

The Eagle's next game will have them face off against Schuyler on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at home.
