O'Neill Eagles Boys Fall Short Of Team Title

Last week at the West Holt Invite the O'Neill Eagles Boys lost by fivepoints to the Ord Chanticleers. The team earned a runner-up trophy.

Leading the Eagles with first place finishes were Tate Laursen in the pole vault at 11 feet. Cody Knopp placed first with a throw of 134' 10" in the discus. Beau Schueth placed first in the 100 meter dash at 11.6. Derrick Hostert placed first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:48.0. The 4 x 100 meter relay placed first with a time of 46.7. The 4 x 100 meter relay members were: Brock Schueth, Beau Schueth, Tate Laursen and Connor Peterson.

Three Eagles were runner-up in events. Connor Peterson placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.7. Angel Rodriguez placed second in the pole vault with a 11 foot vault.

Several other athletes earned points for the O'Neill Eagles. Spencer Knopp placed second in the 110 high hurdles. Brock Schueth placed third in the long jump and fourth in the 200 meters. Daniel Waterman placed in three distance races; third in the 3200 meters, fifth in the 1600 meter run and sixth in the 800 meter run. Kurtis Mlinar placed sixth in the discus. Jackson Latzel sixth in the triple jump. Tyler Knopp placed fourth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump. Tate Laursen placed fourth in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

"The athletes have been working hard. Our goal is to work hard as a team and improve every week. We are still doing that. The next two weeks will be fairly intense with all the meets we have scheduled," said Coach Hilker.

This week the O'Neill Eagles will be splitting the squad. The varsity will be going to the Creighton Invitational. The Creighton Invite will start at 1:30 p.m. This meet will be preliminaries and finals. The freshman and sophomores will be going to the Fr/So Pierce Invitational. This meet will start at 3:00 p.m which is a finals only meet.

Then on Thursday (today) the O'Neill Eagles will go the Norfolk Classic Track Meet. Only the top qualifying marks in the area are able to compete in the meet. The Eagle boy's were able to qualify nine athletes. The following athletes were Cody Knopp in discus, Derrick Hostert 1600 meter run, Michael Hedlund 800 meter run, Tate Laursen and Angel Rodriguez pole vault and Daniel Waterman 3200 meter run. The boy's team was also able to qualify the 4 x 100 who consists of Brock Schueth, Beau Schueth, Connor Peterson and Tate Laursen. The 4 x 400 will finish the finals only meet. These members are Brock Schueth, Beau Schueth, Derrick Hostert and Michael Hedlund. The Classic will start at 4:45 p.m. with field events and running events at 5:15 p.m.
