City Short On Summer Staff

Apr 15, 2026 (0)

School is ending soon, and kids will be at the pool or playing baseball or softball. The City of O'Neill hires full-time summer help to run facilities every year. This year, the city faces a shortage of summer help to run the pool and maintain the ball fields, parks, and cemetery.

" To run the swimming pool, we need a minimum of nine people. This year, with just a little over a month to go, we only have four, and with that number, we definitely can't open with it. The nine people to just get the doors open doesn't cover opening up the slides and causes problems when employees need a day off, as the pool is open seven days a week," said city clerk Sarah Sidak.

"Crews mowing baseball fields, parks, and cemeteries are also short-staffed. If parks and swimming pool crews remain understaffed, pool hours and other services people rely on may be reduced," said Sidak.

Applications for pool and parks employees can be picked up at the O'Neill City Office at 401 E. Fremont, or obtained online at: https://cityofoneillnebraska.com/ under the forms tab.
