Cardinals Improve To 4-0 On Season


The St. Mary's boys varsity improved their record to 4-0 with two victories this past week. The Cardinals are scheduled to play a make-up game at Hartington this Thursday. 

On Tuesday the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors traveled  to  O'Neill and were outscored 48-15 the first half. The game ended with an 81-24 victory for the Cardinals. St. Mary's placed four men in double figures led by seniors Tait Sibbel and Tyler Timmerman with 22 and 15 points respectively. The Moon brothers Cole and Adam added 11 and 10 points. Senior Tom Chvala led the boards with eight rebounds and was followed closely by Sibbel and Adam Moon with six and five caroms. Junior point guard Ty Eiler handed out eight assists while Moon and Sibbel added six and fourrespectively. Eilers and Sibbel led the defense with four steals each. 

On Friday the North Central Knights came to town and after only trailing 18-10 the first quarter were defeated 73-31. Tait Sibbel led the balanced offense with 20 tallies as 12 different Cardinals scored in the contest. Sibbel and Adam Moon led the rebounding with seven and six boards respectively. Ti Eiler led the ball handling with 10 assists. 

"I felt our first two home games demonstrated a lot more four quarter defensive intensity and we seemed to have a lot better offensive flow both games. We will work hard to continue to show steady improvement as the season wears on," commented Coach Chvala.
