Last week was another smash-hit success for the St. Mary's lady Cardinals.

Monday, Oct. 16 was the Cards first game, played against the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors in NVC conference action. From the start, it was obvious who be taking home the gold. Set one ended in a landslide victory for the Carads. The next set saw the Warriors improving. Set three showed everyone that this match was over before it began. The Cardinals were too overpowering for the Warriors to stand any chance.

Just one day later, the Cardinals would face off with the West Holt Huskies and were given a run for their money.

Set one was a booming start for the Cards, bringing them up 10 points ahead the competition. The Huskies turned the game around when they took the second set by three points. The Cardinals weren't going to let the Huskies celebrate long.

They took back control of the match when they won set three and really put the pressure on in the fourth. The Cards took the victory, but the Huskies put up a good fight against this formidable opponent.

Reiman stole the show with 19 kills, four ace serves, one block and 16 digs; Hedstrom 15 kills, one ace serve, five blocks and 21 digs; Williamson seven kills, one block and one dig; Eby two kills, three blocks, one block and two set assists; Ickes one kill, four AC serves, one block and nine digs; Brabec one kill, ten digs and 37 set assists; Barlow 14 digs; and Otte 11 digs and one set assist.

After a three-day break, the Cardinals would return and put on a great match in the NVC final with a tough Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack team.

The first set showed immediately how evenly matched these two teams were. The Wolfpack just narrowly beat out the Cards by three points. Set two showed the Cardinals potentially losing their second match when the Wolfpack took it.

This was bad news for the Cards, but they were not discouraged. They managed to flip the game in their favor when they stole sets three and four. It was now 2-2, and whoever took the fifth set would also take the game. It was a close call, but the Cards were able to close the gap and took the victory. This was a very close match and both teams put up a great effort.

Hedstrom was the MVP with her 29 kills, two blocks, 18 digs and one set assist; Reiman 19 kills, two ace serves, two blocks, 18 digs and one set assist; Ickes eight kills, three ace serves, one block, 22 digs and three set assists; Williamson six kills, one block and three digs; Eby three kills, one ace serve, two blocks, two digs and two set assists; Brabec two kills, 13 digs and 57 set assists; Barlow two kills and nine digs; and Otte four digs.
