St. Mary's Ben Barlow (3) catches a two point conversion pass against Boyd County in last Thursday's game in O'Neill.

The St. Mary's Cardinal Football team lost last week's home game to Boyd County 36-22. It was Thursday, Sept. 14 and last week the Cards had just gotten an easy victory to their name. This week, however, they would not be as fortunate playing a always tough rival in the Boyd County team.

The Cardinals started strong, taking an early two-point advantage over the Spartans who missed thier conversion opportunity. Quarter two ended in a draw, 8-8.

By half-time, the Cards were in the lead by just a few points. Things were looking good for the them until quarter three. The Cardinal offense was stagnant and the defense couldn't keep Hudson Hoffman out of the end zone with  four scores on the night for the Spartans.

Quarter four dug the hole deeper when the Spartans Hoffman put up 14 and held the Cards to just six. They had a strong start, but the Cards weren't able to keep up the pace.

Gage Hedstrom killed it with 24 carries for 109 yards and one touchdown; followed by Ben Barlow with seven for 11 yards and one touchdown.

Leading the defense was Gage Hedstrom with 15 tackles; Drake Berg 10 tackles; Carson Dannenbring and Eli Banks both nine tackles; Sam Barlow seven tackles; Mathew Koehlmoos six tackles; Ben Barlow four tackles; Jack Gydesen; Dalton Herely and Ruger Kraft both one tackle; 65 total tackles.
