Cardinal Girls Pound Gregory 67-25

After a successful first week of basketball play, the St. Mary's girls continue to take their competition down. The girl's first match was against the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars on Tuesday, Dec. 5. 

The Cardinals started with a solid first quarter, gaining the upper-hand by five points. Quarter two only furthered the Cards spot in first place, winning 14-7.

Going into half, the score was 30-18.  The Cards put up 12 points and held the Cougars to just six. In the final quarter, the Cougars beat the Cards 20-13 but they were just too far behind and the Cards took the victory 55-44.

Alissa Brabec put up 23 points, shooting seven of 15 rebounds for 47 percent and one of six two-pointers for 17 percent. Brabec also had two rebounds and two steals; Mya Hedstrom had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals; Lorissa Reiman 12 points, 17 rebounds and one steal; Gracie Williamson four points and one rebound; Annabelle Barlow two points; three rebounds and five steals; Lily Bauer two rebounds; and Adyson Peterson one rebound.

Two days later, Gregory hosted the Cardinals and took a hefty loss 67-25 in their own court.

The Cardinals came out hot, scoring a whopping 30 points first quarter, while the Gorillas trailed with their 11. Second quarter propelled the Cards to 43 points, holding their opponent to just 16. 

Quarter three only furthered cemented the Cards in first, winning it 18-2. The Gorillas kicked things into high gear and took the final quarter, but there was little to be done to this point. The Cards took the win 67-25.

Brabec again on top with 26 points, shooting six of 13 three-pointers for 46 percent and four of five two-pointers for 80 percent. Brabec also had two rebounds and three steals; Hedstrom had 22 points, six rebounds and five steals; Reiman nine points, seven rebounds and two steals; Peterson five points, three rebounds and one steal; Williamson three points, six rebounds and three steals; Barlow two points, one rebound and five steals; Emerson Mlnarik one rebound and two steals; and Bauer one rebound.
