By: Rose Woeppel and Harlie Kloppenborg from the Chambers Yearbook Staff The CWC Renegades basketball team faced the Twin Loup Wolves in Bartlett on Tuesday, January 6. The junior high girls' and boys' teams started the night off followed by the JV boys and finished off the night with the varsity girls' and boys' teams. The junior high girls' basketball team started off the night of competition with a 54-4 win over the Wolves. The next game, which was the junior high boys, secured the 59-4 win. The junior high boys competed well and truly ran the floor against Twin Loup. To continue the marathon, the JV boys carried on the winning streak with an 18-7 victory. The varsity girls broke their losing streak with a 38-30 win over the Lady Wolves. To finish the night, the varsity boys played hard but came up short. They lost 58-51. After halftime, the boys came out and held Twin Loup to only six points. When asked, “Knowing that Twin Loup was ranked, what was your mentality?” Varsity boys coach Brady Firley, replied, “A lot of it was, our games coming up the teams are ranked so we have to work and focus on us and not worry about them being ranked and just play hard.” Then when asked, “Were there any key moments that changed the game?” Coach replied “Yes, coming out of half we switched to a 1-3-1 from our man and they started missing shots and our guys played harder.” We also interviewed Colton Metschke from the junior high boys' team. We asked him “What was your mentality going into the game?” Metschke replied, “To play hard and play good defense and to keep our heads up and obviously win.” When asked, “Were there any key moments that changed the game and helped build momentum?” he replied, “When we pressed them and got our fast-break layup steals.” Looking ahead, the Renegade junior high and high school teams will play January 17th in Chambers. The high school teams will also compete against Boyd County on Friday, January 16. Good luck to the CWC Renegade Basketball Teams!
