Bonnie B. Reed

Des Moines, Iowa — Bonnie Beth Reed, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of O'Neill, died Thursday, July 31, 2025 from a brain hemorrhage.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 at the church in Urbandale, Iowa. The service will be livestreamed at www.IlesCares.com for those unable to attend in person.

Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls at 1140 West Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60607-2980 in Bonnie's name.

Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in O'Neill, on the farm,  on May 22, 1939, Bonnie was a cherished wife, mother, sister and true friend to many.  

She married Ronald when she was 20 and they were blessed with three children before she continued her education.  

She earned her master's degree in music from Drake University and was a music teacher at Hubbell Elementary for more than 30 years. 

Bonnie, in addition to teaching full-time, raising kids and everything else, was the choir director at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale,  Iowa, creating decades of beautiful and spiritual music that touched the hearts of thousands. 

Bonnie was a dedicated gardener, and growing vegetables and flowers was one of her passions. Bonnie loved to cook and bake and was an inspiration to many.

Most importantly, Bonnie was a perfect example of a loving and faith-filled wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life has been a blessing and motivation for all her family and friends.

Her soul is surrounded in love by her husband of 65 years Ronald Reed who preceded her in death by a year.

Bonnie is survived by her three children Steven (Cathi) Reed, Kelly Reed Cornell (Brian Martenson) and Julie Reed (Kosta Callas); her six grandchildren Jessica Reed, Hallie Christensen, Kevin Cornell, Jacqueline Cornell, Andonia Callas and Brittney Lipichok; one great-grandson Graeson Jenkins; along with many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Reed, infant son Richard R. Reed and one grandson Joseph Lipichok.
