Creighton — Bess Mae Waterman, 88, of Creighton, died Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Rev. Janelle Siffring officiated.

Burial was in the Hope Enterprise Cemetery in Orchard.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Shriners Children's or St. Jude's in Bess's name.

Bess was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Holt County, to Edgar and Mary (Plagge) Hartman, the youngest of seven children, and died April 4, 2024, at the age of 88. She attended school at Page Public School. 

Bess married Charles Waterman on Jan. 20, 1960, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Orchard. One son Lee was born to this union and joined a sister Vicki. 

Bess was baptized on Feb. 20, 2024.

Bess was employed as a clerk at Creighton Livestock Market, a job she truly enjoyed. 

She took an active interest in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a Cub Scout leader for a number of years. 

She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crocheting and cooking. Family was very important to Bess. It was a tradition she gave the first haircut to a number of her grandchildren. Bess enjoyed raising Chihuahua puppies. 

Bess taught her children through example, and they learned the rewards of giving and making sacrifices.

  Bess is survived by two children Dale (Debra) Waterman of O'Neill and Bill (Sheryl) Waterman of Bradford, PA; one son-in-law David Gleisberg of Seward; one daughter-in-law Shannon Waterman of Creighton; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Fern Schneider of Norfolk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; one son Lee; one daughter Vicki; three brothers James, Jack and Bill; and three sisters Margaret, Ruby and Trula.
