Last week the OʼNeill Eagles hosted the 52nd Annual OʼNeill Invitational Track Meet. The event was a little chilly as rainy weather tried to disrupt the event but despite the weather the athletes competed for the gold. There were 24 teams that competed at Division I or Division II. The OʼNeill Eagles competed at the division I level. The Eagles placed third as a team in division I competition. Leading the Eagles again was junior Tate Laursen who won the 300 intermediate hurdles, third in the 100 meter dash, and was part 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 that placed second over all. Connor Peterson also placed fourth in the 200 meters, fifth in the 100 meters, and was part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meters. Derrick Laursen placed first in the 1600 meter run, and was part of the 4 x 400 meter relay. Angel Rodriguez placed second in the pole vault, sixth in the 110 high hurdles, and was part of the 4 x 100 meter relay. Brock Schueth ran his best 400 meters of the season with a time of 53.46 placing fourth and ran the 4 x 100. The 4 x 800 placed second as a team. Donnie Taylor placed sixth in the discus. Jackson Latzel placed sixth in the 800 meter run. “The boyʼs team hard some good individual effort. As a team we have a lot more than what we shown. We are still growing,” said Coach Hilker. Ben Borer, WH 123-11 The O'Neill Lady Eagles competed in the 52nd O'Neill Track and Field Invitational under less than ideal conditions on Thursday, April 12th, finishing in fourth place. Leading O'Neill were the discus throwing Appleby sisters of Kelsey and Lindsey. Kelsey threw 104-05 and Lindsey threw 102-02 to finish in first and second place respectively. Brandi Walters won the 100 meter dash, finished third in the 100 high hurdles and finished fourth in the 300 low hurdles. Junior Dani Barelmann finished second in the 1600 with a time of 6:01.19. Also placing high for the Lady Eagles was freshman Randi Pinkerman who finished in third place in the high jump, third in the 100 meter dash and sixth place in the 200 meter dash. McKenzie Adamson also placed for O'Neill placing fourth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump. The distance duo of Liz Price and Tasha Lechtenberg both placed in the 3200 with Liz placing fifth and Tasha placing sixth. Senior Alex Hedlund also placed fifth in the 300 low hurdles, sixth in the 100 high hurdles and was part of the fourth place 4 x 100 relay. "I felt we competed well in some events, but did not compete at the level we are happy with at O'Neill High School.
