Lawrence "Larry" Edgar Minton, 94, of O'Neill, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in O'Neill.

Memorial visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025 at the mortuary in O'Neill.

Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill with military rites provided by the O'Neill American Legion Post 93.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Irish Capital Feline Foundation or the Holt County Humane Society, all in O'Neill, in Larry's name.

Lawrence was born in 1931 to Richard Minton Sr. and Rose (Judge). He had one brother Richard "Dick" Minton. He resided in O'Neill his entire life.

Larry was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish. He graduated from St. Mary's Class of 1949. He served four years in the military (Air Force).

When he returned from service Larry worked at the O'Neill Post Office for 34 years where he retired. He served as a clerk and office administrator when the postmaster was out of the office. He retired with over 39 years of total federal service. Larry enjoyed working with people, volunteering and remembered names and addresses until his final days.

Larry was a proud member of the American Legion and was recognized for 60 years of service in 2019.

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked for the church.

It needs to be said that Larry loved his brother's six children as his own. Rose, his Goddaughter, stepped up to guide him in his senior years. He was furiously independent and hated asking for help but loved having Rose being a big part of his personal life. He wanted to stay in O'Neill. Between the six kids we were able to travel back and forth to keep up with him. In his final days, he was surrounded by all six of his nieces and nephew and he kept counting how many “kids” were present. He enjoyed those final days and didn't want to leave.

Larry was known for his pranks and his family was the perfect target. He was always so stoic and straight faced and it was hard to believe he would pull a trick on us. He had a dry wit and was very quick to tease and entertain.

Larry was a talented gardener. He always had a huge garden to tend to. He took great pride in his yard and his beautiful peonies. He was recognized for his beautiful lawn and gorgeous house that he had built. Larry was a collector of both coins and stamps. He was a huge animal lover. He enjoyed playing cards with dear friends for many years.

Larry's family would like to recognize the staff and caretakers at Evergreen, Accura HealthCare and hospice care of AseraCare, all in O'Neill. Larry was lovingly cared for by a dedicated staff of loving and concerned caretakers. Every level of employee treated him with love and respect. Bless you all for the gift you give to others through your talents. We will never forget.

Larry is survived by Lois Minton; his stepson Collin Cavanaugh; his family of nieces and nephew Rose Minton, Mardelle (Mike) Morrow, Miriam Minton, Kathy (James) Ward, Tim (Melissa) Minton and Colleen (Tim) Burns and their families; andy so many friends that he cherished for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Minton Sr. and Rose (Judge) Minton, his brother Dick, one sister-in-law Betty Troshynski Minton and an infant sister.
