The O’Neill Eagle Boys Team ran at the C-2 districts held in Pierce Thursday, Oct. 17. Eleven schools competed at the meet.
O’Neill girls started the day and earned a seventh pace finish. Faith Williamson placed 25th, Taya Rainforth 31st, Yoselin Cayax 37th, Alexa Shald 39th, Ally Sedlacek 45th and Alyssa Gdanitz 48th.
“ It's been a great year with the girls. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to coach. I want to thank the seniors, Alexa and Taya, for allowing me to coach them,” commented Coach Cole Hilker.
The boy’s team ran against tough competition. All eleven schools had full teams. The Eagles placed third earning the team a right to run next week. Sophomores Brady Thompson placed fifth, Ty Rainforth 15th earning individual medals. Oscar Lopez 17th, Kullen Cartella 19th, Servando Gonzalez 27th and Blake Parks 29th.
“It was a tight district score. We knew it would be close. All the boys showed grit. We really thought they ran to win. We haven’t beaten Pierce all year, including the conference championships, and to beat them Thursday to go to state meant we ran well. I feel we have more to give,” said Hilker.
Friday, Oct. 25th, the O’Neill Eagles will run in NSAA State Championships in Kearney. O’Neill Boys race time is 1 p.m.
