ALBION - The O’Neill Cross Country Team competed at the Boone Central Invitational Meet last Friday, Aug. 31 in Albion. Seventeen other schools competed at the meet.
The Lady Eagles ran well and placed fourth as a team with 54 points. Leading the team and medalling were Whitney Watson sixth, Faith Williamson 13th and Lilly Thompson 19th.The rest of the team placed as follows: Taya Rainforth 27th, Ally Sedlacek 45th, Alyssa Gdanitz 48th, Alexa Shald 53rd and Hannah Alden 59th.
“Our girls ran really well, we were a little tentative at the beginning but we will get stronger," said Coach Hilker.
The O’Neill Boy’s Cross Country Team placed seventh in the meet. Freshman Brady Thompson led the team with a 19th place finish and medalled.
Finishing top six for the Eagles were: Oscar Lopez 37th, Ty Rainforth 57th, Trinity Mosel 72nd, Enrique Sanchez 78th and Max Wetzel 81st. The rest of the team was: Ethan Nelson 85th, Lucas Dougherty 87th and Justin Beeks 104th.
“The Boys team is really young and went out a little too strong. We just need to be more patient and push the middle,” said Hilker.
The O’Neill Junior High Cross Country also competed. The girl and boy’s team placed fifth. Competing and placing for the girls were: Ashley Diskau 12th, Annie Corkle 16th, Jordan Donahoe 22nd, Kyla Martinez 28th, Yoslin Cayax 29th, Schuyler Morrow 35th, Jasmin Minnig 36th, Marianna Montes 40th, Xitaly Sanchez 41st, Sydney Birkel 42nd and Hildeliza Acrniego 50th.
The junior high boys competitors were: Kullen Cartella 14th, Blake Parks 20th, Clay Shaw 31st, John Alden 43rd, William Grosch 45th, Kyler Dean 48th, Brent Hamm 52nd, Cameron Strong 54th, Breyden Hamm 61st, Easton Kopecky 62nd, Elijah Kopecky 63rd, Zachary Osborne 64th and Evan Kopecky 72nd.
This week the O’Neill Eagles compete at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational Cross Country Meet. The meet is held at Sky View Lake and will begin at 3 p.m on Friday, Sept 7.
