The O'Neill Lady Eagles held off the host Valentine volleyball team by a score of 2-1 in the first triangular match on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

The Eagles started out strong as they easily put the first set away 25-12. The Badgers came back fighting, taking the second set 25-16. But the Eagles came through when they took the victory with the third set 25-20.

In the second match, the Eagles faced the West Holt Huskies. The Eagles again marked the victory, this time in two sets both 25-15.

The Eagles then played host to the Crofton Warriors on Thursday, Sept. 12. Again, the Eagles came out victoriously, winning all three sets, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17.

Leading scorers fort the Eagles were Makayla Hilker with 10 kills, one ace and 11 digs;  Blair Gutshall seven kills, one block and 11 digs;  Meg Schluns six kills, one ace, one block, 22 digs and two assists;  Wreece Liewer four kills, two aces, four blocks and one dig; Lauren Young two kills and two blocks; Alyssa Eichelberger one kill, three aces, one block, two digs and 24 assists;  Zellie Sorenson one ace, one block and three digs; and  Kiersten Welke 11 digs.

Next, the Eagles battle the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles from Norfolk on Tuesday, Sept. 17. O'Neill will attempt to better its 7-0 season record. The Eagles come into the contest with a 7-4 record after their 2-0 non-league loss to Ponca.
