On Thursday, Feb. 6, the Lady Eagles played in the Mid States Tournament when they faced the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals.
The Eagles struggled at the start only managing to get six on the board in the first quarter, trailing the Cardinals by four. In the second quarter the two teams were pretty close with the Eagles adding 12 to their score and the Cardinals adding 13 points. At the half, the Eagles trailed by five, 18-23.
The second half went a little better when the Eagles put up three more points than the Cardinals in the third quarter and 10 more than the Cardinals in the fourth quarter. At the buzzer, the Eagles took the 48-40 victory.
Leading Eagle scorers were Alyssa Eichelberger with 16 points, including two shots from the three point range, shooting 86 percent from the free throw line, getting three rebounds and two steals; Meg Schluns 12 points, including one three-point shot, shooting 58 percent at the free throw line, with 11 rebounds and two steals; Lauren Young 11 points, including one three-pointer, shooting 100 percent at the free throw line, with five rebounds and three steals; Makayla Hilker four points and three rebounds; Kiersten Welke three points and four rebounds; and Wreece Leiwer two points, two rebounds and one steal.

The Eagles faced the Cedar Catholic Trojans from Hartington on Saturday, Feb. 8 during the Mid States Consolation Tournament play. O'Neill started out tough putting six more points on the board than the Trojans in the first quarter. However, the Trojans made most of those back when they put 16 on the board in the second quarter and the Eagles only tacked on 12 additional points. At the half the Eagles had a narrow 28-26 lead.
The third quarter was tough on both sides of the floor. The Eagles only added nine points to their tally, but they only allowed the Trojans an addition of three points. The Eagles came up on the short side in the fourth quarter, only managing 11 extra points while the Trojans put up 17 more. But the Eagles had a big enough lead to take the win by two points at the buzzer. 48-46.
Leading the Eagles were Schluns with 12 points, including one three-point shot, shooting 50 percent from both the floor and the free throw line, getting 11 rebounds and four steals; Hilker also getting 12 points, shooting 57 percent from the three-point range, getting four rebounds and one steal; Blair Gutshall nine points, five rebounds and one steal; Young eight points, three rebounds and one steal; and Eichelberger seven points, two rebounds and five steals.
