The O'Neill Lady Eagles fared pretty well this past week as they won both games on the road. On Tuesday, Sept. 3 the Eagles traveled to Tilden to take on the Elkhorn Valley Falcons. The Eagles jumped off to an easy win in the first set winning 25-12. O'Neill managed to come out on top in the hard fought set two as they finally won with the score at 30-28. Set three proved to be too hard as the Falcons marked up a 25-18 win. But the Eagles lashed back and won the game when they took set four 25-10.

Leading scorers for the Eagles were Blair Gutshall with 16 kills, one ace, six blocks and 14 digs; Makayla Hilker nine kills, one ace and 17 digs; Meg Schluns five kills, two aces and 23 digs; Wreece Liewer four kills, four blocks and eight digs; Zeile Sorenson three kills and one dig; Kiersten Welke one kill and 19 digs; Alyssa Eichelberger two aces, 10 digs and 29 assists; Makenna Fowler one block and one dig and Lauren Young one block, four digs and one ace.

On Thursday, Sept. 5 the Eagles were on the road again. This time traveling to Albion to take on the Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals. Right from the start this was a well matched competition. The Eagles narrowly lost the first set with a score of 22-25. Set two proved to be more of the same as they marked up the second loss of 23-25. By the third set the Eagles got in a rhythm and took a couple of easier wins with set three being 25-13 and set four 25-12. That meant they headed to the all important tie breaker, set five. This too was a battle, but the Eagles came out victorious with an ending score of 15-13.

Helping O'Neill get the win were Gutshall with 16 kills, three blocks and 17 digs; Schluns 15 kills, one ace, 17 digs and one assist; Hilker 11 kills, three aces, three blocks, 16 digs and two assists; Liewer 11 kills, one ace, four digs and one assist; Eichelberger three kills, one ace, 12 digs and 46 assists; Young two kills and eight digs; Fowler one kill, one ace and two digs; Welke 17 digs and Morgan Cullen one dig.

This week Elgin Public/Pope John came to O'Neill on Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Eagles traveled to Valentine for a triangular with West Holt on Wednesday, host Crofton on Thursday and the junior varsity team travels to Wisner for a tournament on Saturday.
