The St. Mary Lady Cardinals hosted a triangular on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The first match had them facing the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack. The Wolfpack came out snarling and the Cardinals were defeated in two sets 20-25 and 11-25.
Leading scorers for the Cards were Abby Everitt six kills, eight blocks, six digs and two set assists; Sybil Scofield four kills, one block, four digs and one set assist; Jadyn Eby one kill, nine digs and one set assist; Emma Winkelbauer five blocks and one dig; Brandi Ruzicka eight digs and four set assists; Hope williamson 10 digs; Katie Pongratz two digs; and Araceli Perez one dig.
The second match had the Cardinals just flapping their wings as well. The St. Francis Flyers flew away with the win in two sets 25-13 and 25-12.
Leading St. Mary's were Everitt six kills, seven digs and two set assists; Scofield three kills and seven digs; Ryanne Pistulka one kill, one block, one dig and one ace; Winkelbauer one kill and one block; Pongratz one kill and five digs; Ruzika one kill; and Williamson six digs.
Then on Thursday, Oct. 10 the Cards were on the road to Niobrara/Vedigre for a double triangular.
The first match was against the Stuart Broncos. The Broncos trampled the Cards in the first set, winning 25-9. The Cards flocked together and worked in the second set when they won 25-18. But the Broncos took the lead in the last set and lassoed up a 25-20 win.
The second match the Cardinals faced the home team, the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars. The Cards flew away with the first set 25-15. The Cougars put up a little more fight in the second set, but the Cardinals again came up with the win 25-21, to win the match.
