The Lady Cardinals played a couple of close games this past week.
On Tuesday, Feb. 9 the Boyd County Spartans came to town. The game started close with the Spartans putting up 11 points in the first and the Cards right behind with 10 points. the second quarter the Cards only managed an additional five points while the Spartans could only muster up seven additional points. At the half, the Cards trailed 15-18.
The Cards played catch up in the third when they put up two more points than the Spartans and took the lead in the fourth with three more points than the Spartans could put on the board. At the buzzer the Cards had the 37-35 win.
Leading scorers for the Cards were Freshman Mya Hedstrom with 15 points, shooting 71 percent from the free throw line, getting 11 rebounds and five steals; Freshman Alissa Brabec with nine points, including two shots from the three point range, with two rebounds and one steal; Freshman Lorissa Reiman seven points, 15 rebounds and one steal; Sophomore Hope Williamson four points, two rebounds and three steals; and Junior Charley Mlnarik two points, four rebounds and two steals.
Leading scorers for the Spartans were Senior Lauryn Hoffman with nine points, shooting 43 percent from the white stripe, with seven rebounds and three steals; Sophomore Amelia Hoffman six points, 12 rebounds and one steal; Sophomore Leah Jockens six points, six rebounds and two steals; Freshman Paige Drueke five points, five rebounds and two steals; Junior Bentley Adams five points, one rebound and one steal; Junior Rylie Haun three points and one rebound; and Senior Averi Carlson one point, two rebounds and one steal.

On Thursday the West Holt Huskies came to town in another close game. The end of the first quarter found the score tied at eight points each. The Cards took the lead in the second quarter when they tacked on 16 additional points and held the Huskies to a nine point addition. At the half, the Cards led 24-17.
The third quarter had the two teams playing evenly again as both managed to get 12 more points on their side of the board. But the Huskies made their move in the fourth quarter putting up 20 more points while the Cards only managed to mark up seven more. At the buzzer the Cards took the 43-49 loss.
Leading scorers for the Cards were Hedstrom with 15 points, shooting 83 percent at the charity stripe, getting four rebounds and two steals; Brabec 11 points, including a three-pointer, shooting 67 percent at the white stripe, with six rebounds and three steals; Senior Jadyn Eby nine points, one rebound and one steal; Reiman six points, 15 rebounds and one steal; and Mlnarik two points and two rebounds.

The Lady Cards started their Sub-District Play on Tuesday, Feb. 16 when they traveled to Bassett to face off against the Stuart Broncos.
