The O'Neill Eagles travel to Albion for their season opener against Boone Central/Newman Grove losing 22-14. 

Boone Central/Newman Grove's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 16 points in the first half. O'Neill came up with six to put the score at 16-6. Boone Central/Newman Grove was outperformed in the second half 6-8 but had enough in reserve from the first to take the contest.

The Eagles ran 60 plays with 11 first downs and had five penalties for 30 yards. The Cardinals ran 56 plays with 14 first downs and had eight penalties for 65 yards.

The Eagles scored on a rushing touchdown from quarterback Mason Walsh and Francisco Perez caught a pass for the Eagles other touchdown. Kolby Dean scored two on the conversion for the Eagles eight points in the second half.

    Quarterback Mason Walsh threw the ball 15 times for five completions of 15 yards and one touchdown. Leading rusher for the Eagles was Spencer Davis with 19 carries for 52 yards, Kobly Dean seven carries for 31 yards, Francisco Perez five carries for 28 yards, Mason Walsh 12 carries for 10 yards and one touchdown and Dennis Hererra one carry for two yards. Leading receivers for the Eagles were Francisco Perez with two receptions for 52 yards and one touchdown, Tye Hilker one reception for 20-yards, Kolby Dean one reception for eight yards and Spencer Davis one catch for five yards.

Leading the Eagle defense was Dennis Herrera, Matt Wilson and Michael Poese with seven tackles; Tye HilkerFrancisco Perez, and Dawson Winsor with six tackles; Spencer Davis and Nate Welsh with five tackles; Heydon Strope three tackles; Tyler Winings two tackles and Peyton Matthews, Hunter McClellan and Isaiah Shabram one tackle each.
