The O'Neill Eagles opened up the 2020 season with a tough but close three point loss to the Cedar Catholic Trojans.
Both teams seemed physically matched as the teams took to the grid-iron.
The Eagles ran 45 plays taking seven first downs and had three penalties for 10 yards. The Trojans ran 64 plays for 15 first downs and took four penalties for 20 yards.
Mason Walsh was confident at the helm for the Eagles throwing 26 times for 13 completions and two touchdowns. Walsh had four carries and no gain.
Turnel Jussel led the Eagles with eight carries for 27 yards with his longest at 11 yards; Brady Sidak had six carries for 13 yards; and Fabian Acevedo with two carries and no gain.
Jussel played well down field for the Eagles catching twice for 77 yards and one touchdown for the Eagles; Keegan Moore also had a good game with three catches for 27 yards and one touchdown; Acevedo kicked both extra points for the Eagles and a field goal; Peyton Mathews had six catches for 55 yards.
Clay Shaw took the honors in defense for the game with 12 tackles followed by Tommy Kaczor, Sidak and Mathews with 11 tackles; Korbyn Grenier and Jussel with six; Landon Classen five tackles; Rodriguez, and Kendryk Hinton three; Matthew Pardun and Moore with two tackles and Acevedo with one.
The Eagles will host Valentine this week in O'Neill.
