The O’Neill Cross Country Team competed in two different meets. Monday, Sept. 28th, the Eagles travelled to the UNK Cross Country Invitational. Then on Thursday ran close to home at the West Holt Invitational.
Monday the Eagles competed at the UNK Invite in Kearney in the Class C division. There were thirty-six schools in the girl’s division and forty-two schools in the boy’s division. Both teams finished in 16th place. Top twenty individuals earned medals.
Leading the boys’ team was Brady Thompson placing ninth earning a medal out of 338 athletes competing in the Class C Boys Division. Rounding out the team was Kullen Cartella 57th, Ty Rainforth 64th, Dylan Parks 179th, Kyler Dean 229th, Jon Alden 231st, Gus Laible 250th, and Elijah Kopecky 271st.
The girls’ team was led by Faith Williamson 57th, Ashley Dickau 60th, Annie Corkle 81st, Yoselin Cayax 107th, Nahomi Sunum 134th and Ally Sedlacek 157th.
“This is a different meet due to the number of athletes that run each race. It’s nice to get on the course to run it,” said Coach Hilker.
The Eagles then competed at the West Holt Invitational Cross-Country Meet. Fourteen teams competed in the boys with 99 athletes and thirteen teams with seventy-four athletes in the girl’s race.
The girls competed and finished sixth as a team at West Holt. Medaling for the in the girl’s race was Ashley Dickau placed 14th. Rest of the team placed as followed Faith Williamson 24th, Annie Corkle 28th, Yoselin Cayax 35th, Ally Sedlacek 48th, Nahomi Sunum 52nd Jace Gregory 71st and Paris Pena 73rd.
The boys won the team division bringing home the championship plaque home for the second year in a row from West Holt. Three Eagles medaled in the field of ninety-nine athletes. Brady Thompson earned runner-up, Kullen Cartella 8th and Ty Rainforth 11th. Rest of the Eagles Joe Yates, 25th, Dylan Parks 29th, Kyler Dean 42nd, Jon Alden 60th, Gus Laible 67th, Elijah Kopecky 68th, Mikah Raymond placed 73rd, Tyler Diediker 75th, Enrique Sanchez 80th, Joel Costilla 84th, Peyton Yates 85th, Carter Hickey 86th and Ashton Burival 92nd.
“We competed today but struggled the last thousand meters. We raced fifteen thousand meters in the last six days. Once we rest, get fresh legs, we will be a lot stronger,” said Coach Hilker.
The junior high competed with sixteen athletes. The junior high girls placed 2nd as a team. Medaling for the girls were Taya Dickau fourth and Molly Corkle 15th. Rest of the team was Lauryn Dusatko 17th, Elle Hoffman 21st, Madison Shoemaker 24th, Zuri Moore 41st, Chelsi Janzing 46th, Ashly Silva 47th and Kassandra Espinoza 51st.
Next week the O’Neill High Eagle Cross Country Team will compete in the Mid-States Conference Cross Country Meet. Boone Central will host the conference meet. Girls race will begin at 4:30 p.m. and boys’ race will follow approximately at 5:10 pm.
