The Eagle varsity team started off last week with the Norfolk Classic Invitational. Seven athletes competed and medaled. Keaton Wattier competed in the 110 high hurdles and placed third, Christopher Jennings earned sixth in the discus, Tyler Diediker was fourth in the long jump, and the 4 x 800 consisting of Keegan Moore, Landon Classen, Brady Thompson, and Ty Rainforth placed sixth.

Then last Saturday, May 1 the O’Neill Eagle Boy’s Track Team competed in the Mid-States Conference Track Team. The team finished sixth with 40 points.

Leading the Eagles in conference was junior Keaton Wattier, earning a gold medal in the 110 high hurdles with a career best of 15.06. The 4x 800 meter relay, consisting of Keegan Moore, Landon Classen, Brady Thompson, and Ty Rainforth placed runner-up and running their season best of 8:41.36. Thompson also earned a silver medal in the 1600 meter run with a season best time of 4:53.96.

In the field events Joseph Engelbart placed fourth in the shot with a personal best in the shot put, 47’ 1”. Matthew Pardun placed sixth in the shot with 44’ 1 ½”. Christopher Jennings is really showing consisting in the discus with a throw of 148’ 8”, placing him third. Kyler Dean vaulted his career best with a vault of 11’ 6”, this was a strong enough performance to place him fourth overall.

The 4 x 100 with clean hand-offs earned sixth place medal. Members were Tyler Diediker, Kyler Dean, Jakeb Larson, and Zach Mitchell.

Drew Morrow is finding more consisting in the triple jump, he was able to jump over 38’ again as a freshman. Another freshman, Elijah Kopecky, ran his personal best in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:39.

“The Eagles competed well today! I really thought we prepared well to run at conference physically and mentally. This was our best meet so far this year,” said Hilker.
