Moorhead, MN — Maurice Odean Moen, 85, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of O'Neill, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 in Moorhead, MN.

Memorials received by the family will be donated to the residents of BeeHive Homes of Moorhead, MN, the memory care facility Maurice resided in that provided such great care for his final days.

Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN was in charge of the arrangements.

Maurice and his family lived in O’Neill from 1981-1996, while Maurice oversaw the building of a new Cargill facility and then continued on as manager.

Maurice was born in Grand Forks, ND, the youngest of four children born to Carl and Dagney (Olson) Moen. Maurice grew up on a farm outside of Whitman, ND. He attended grade school in Whitman, at times in a horse-drawn sleigh that is currently housed in a museum, and graduated in 1953 from nearby Michigan High School.

Maurice attended North Dakota State University. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, graduating in 1957 with a degree in agronomy and soil science. He worked most of his career with Cargill, retiring in 1996.

Maurice married Marjory Davidson from Lakota, ND. To this union three children were born Michael, Meredith and David.

Maurice had a great sense of humor and usually had a good Norwegian joke to tell. 

He liked to go back to the home farm and help when possible, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with family and friends. He was usually up for a game of Hand and Foot or Cribbage. 

Maurice could often be found in the garage, tinkering with his woodworking tools and creating masterpieces, many of which found their way into the homes of loved ones. 

Maurice enjoyed traveling with his wife Marj, and was able to visit many interesting places. 

A vegetable garden and flower beds were always a part of the Moen household and Maurice took great pride in a lush and green lawn.

Maurice was an active member of the Lutheran Church and volunteered his time in numerous ways. He also was a fireman and EMT with the Carrington, ND Fire Department.

Maurice is survived by his wife Marjory Moen of Moorhead, MN; one daughter Meredith McConnell of  O’Neill; one son David (April) Moen of Fargo, ND; two grandchildren Kendra (Joel) Steinhauser and Matthew (Julie) Ethington; four great-grandchildren Payton, Brynn, Jensen and Camden; one brother Sherman (Janice) Moen; one sister Donna (Bill) Newell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Carl and Dagney (Olson) Moen, one son Michael Odean Moen and one sister Almira (John) Hogenson.
