Burwell — Marguerite Jean Tjessem, 94, of Burwell, formerly of O'Neill, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020 at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at the Assembly of God Church in O'Neill.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at the church in O'Neill. Rev. Mike Durre officiated. Music was provided with recorded selections
Honorary pallbearers were Paul Kramer, Kenny Kamphaus, Mark Kramer, Andrew Kramer, John Kramer, Joe Kamphaus and John Kanphaus.
Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill.
Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements.
Marguerite was born Sept. 23, 1925 to Eugene and Ada (Burger) Clark in Inman. She graduated from Inman High School in 1942.
She went on to St. Vincent’s College, known today as Marian Health Center, in Sioux City, Iowa to attend nursing school.
Marguerite met Roy Tjessem, who was stationed in Sioux City during World War II. They were married on March 26, 1946 in Inman. After the wedding, they settled in Chicago, IL and started their family. They had three girls Sandy, Nancy and Carol. Marguerite kept busy in the home babysitting and raising her girls.
In 1962, they moved to Glendale Heights, IL where Marguerite worked in the pediatric unit at Central DuPage Hospital. In 1974, the family returned to Inman where Marguerite worked at Sunrise Flower and Gift. The couple moved to O’Neill in 1978. Marguerite retired in the mid 1990s.
Marguerite enjoyed reading, collecting angels, knitting, needlework, crocheting and gardening. Above all things, she loved spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Inman Methodist Church.
Marguerite is survived by three children Sandy Tjessem of O’Neill, Nancy (Paul) Kramer of Sycamore, IL and Carol (Kenny) Kamphaus of Burwell; eight grandchildren Nancy (Ron) Daniel, Mark (Laryssa) Kramer, Andy Kramer, Sarah (Tommy) Dainty, John Michael (Rachel) Kramer, Kaci Kamphaus, Joseph (Jessica) Kamphaus and John (McKenzie Shoaf) Kamphaus; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Deloras Clark of O’Neill; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 2003 and two brothers Howard (Joyce) Clark and Tom (Mary) Clark.
