Verdigre — John Michael Burk, 67, of Verdigre, formerly of Ewing, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Alpine Village Nursing Home in Verdigre.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Memorial services were held Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 at the mortuary. Ralph Metschke officiated.

Burial was in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

John was born on July 19, 1952 to Patrick and Marilyn (Woeppel) Burk in Tilden. The family made their home south of Ewing where he attended school. John graduated from Ewing High School in 1971. He then attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk for one year. 

He married his high school sweetheart Mary Woslager at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing. To this couple three children were born Pat, Matt and Jennifer. The couple later divorced.  

John worked for various farmers and ranchers in the Ewing and Chambers area until his failing health caused him to retire in the early 2000s.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed going to rodeos to watch his son Pat ride bulls. 

John is survived by two children Matt Burk of Chambers and Jennifer (Travis) Nelson of Bartlett; three grandchildren Tyson Burk, Emily Burk and Kolt Nelson; one sister Barbara King of Norfolk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Pat in 1999 and one sister Linda LaRue.
