Irene Marie McHale, 93, of O'Neill, formerly of Riverside, CA, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2020 at the Arbor Care Center in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Celebration of life services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at the mortuary in O’Neill.    

Graveside services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. 

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.  

Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill and Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary in Riverside, CA are in charge of services.

Irene was born Dec. 22, 1926 to Edward and Carrie (Putman) Hood north of O’Neill. She was born the seventh out of 14 children and is the last surviving member. She grew up north of O’Neill where she attended country school. 

Irene moved to California when she was 14.  

She married Robert S. McHale on Oct. 1, 1949. They were married for 57 years until Bob’s passing on his 84th birthday, May 1, 2007. They resided in Riverside, CA and did not have any children.  

Irene was a waitress at many restaurants in the Riverside area and after retirement she ran a daycare. 

She enjoyed going on trips and keeping in touch with family members over the years.  

Bob and Irene enjoyed hosting visitors that came to visit.  

She had a great memory up until her passing. Irene was everyone’s favorite aunt. She made you feel like you were her very own. 

Irene had a love for cats and usually had one indoor cat and a few outdoor cats she took care of.  

Irene moved back to O’Neill to be near her sisters in 2012. She continued to host relatives that came to visit and continued to keep in touch with family and friends.

Locally, Irene is survived by one sister-in-law Darlene Hood of Neligh, one brother-in-law Melvin Armfield of Tilden, two nephews Robert, Thomas and James Storjohann, two nieces Margaret Wiseman and Cheryl Welsh and many
