Spencer — Elizabeth "Betty" Carlson, 87, of Spencer died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at Butte Healthcare Center in Butte.
Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Grant H. Graff officiated. Music was provided by organist Cherry Hammon and singers Gail Carlson, Janelle Yarolimek, Jennifer Ficek and Joanna Norton.
Pallbearers were Barry Carlson, Adam Carlson, Keith Witter, Christopher Provost, Brett Witter, Tony Boettcher, Matthew Carlson and Jeremy Carlson.
Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Spencer.
Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
Betty was born on Aug. 1, 1930 to Ivan and Mamie (Monroe) Stevenson in Carlock, SD. She graduated from Fairfax Public School with the Class of 1948.
On Dec. 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arthur H. Carlson in Lake Andes, SD. To this union six children were born. One foster child was added during their marriage.
Betty was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She served faithfully through the years with various church committees. She loved to serve people and did that well.
Her passion in life was serving her family. She was a wonderful cook and hostess. Betty loved to sew and make quilts. She loved working outside and took pride in her garden. Many hours were spent canning those vegetables and sharing with her family. Another one of Betty’s hobbies was to refinish furniture for her and her family.
Betty was a sports enthusiast. Attending sports events in her community was a part of her daily life. She especially loved attending her children and grandchildren’s games as well as school activities.
Betty is survived by seven children Kathy (Roger) Fisher of Acworth, GA, David (Gail) Carlson of Springfield, Linda Carlson of Omaha, Terry (Kris) Carlson of Grand Island, Jim (Cindy) Carlson of Spencer, Diane (David) Provost of Doniphan and Steve (Julie) Wilkey of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren Michael (Tammy) Fisher, Kimberly Fisher, Jeremy (Sarah) Carlson, Janelle (Nathaniel) Yarolimek, Jennifer (Kyle) Ficek, Joanna (Michael) Norton, Traci (Justin) Reeves, Matthew Carlson, Barry Carlson, Brandi Carlson, Kari (Tony) Boettcher, Adam Carlson, Keith Witter, Brett (Alicia) Witter, Christopher Provost and Mikey Provost; 34 great-grandchildren; three siblings Don (Joyce) Stevenson, Mary (Duane) Hammon and Jean Pirner; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, her parents, one brother Vernon, and one brother in infancy, two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
