Lincoln — Dorrence Marvin Hobbs, 82, of Lincoln, formerly of Ewing, died Friday, June 28, 2019 at Bryan Medical Center-East Campus in Lincoln.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Ewing.
Burial was in the Ewing Cemetery in Ewing with militaty honors by Ewing American Legion Sanders Post 214.
Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
Dorrence was born on June 10, 1937 to Lee Albert and Mildred (Harding) Hobbs in O’Neill. When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Ewing. He attended Ewing Public School where he was active in athletics and graduated in 1956.
While in high school, he met his future bride Barbara. The pair spent many nights at the local drive-in and cooling off in the Elkhorn River. They were united in marriage on May 13, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Ewing.
They started their married life living in Omaha but returned to the Chambers area to raise their children Marcus, Pamela, Anita, Natalie and Shelly.
He joined the U.S. Army National Guard in February 1956 and served until February 1959.
Dorrence made his livelihood farming, ranching and trucking until he opened Hobbs Repair in Ewing.
He moved to Lincoln in 2017 after Barbara passed away in 2015. The couple was blessed with 59 years of marriage.
Dorrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nebraska football and spending time with his family. He was an avid gardener and his tomato plants were his pride and joy, some plants reaching over 8 ft. tall. His love of flowers came from his wife Barbara.
Dorrence is survived by five children Marcus (Gwen) Hobbs of Ewing, Pamela (Bill) Klabenes, Anita (Brian) Campbell and Natalie Hobbs, all of Lincoln, and Shelly Hobbs of O’Neill;. 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one brother Dwayne Hobbs of Ewing; two sisters-in-law Janell (Hoke) Hobbs of Ewing and Darlene Hobbs of Waverly; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara; three brothers Bill, Mick and Bob; two sisters Elsie and Lois; one baby in-infancy; one daughter-in-law Peggy (Beed) Hobbs; and one grandson Sam Hobbs.
