Atkinson — Betty Mae Neumiller, 88, of Atkinson died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 at the West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson.
Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at the United Church of Christ in Naper with a prayer service.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 14, 2020 at the church in Naper. Pastor Wayne Owens officiated. Music was provided by organist Ann Anderson and congregational hymns.
Pallbearers were Alex Goochey, Darrell Hoffard, David Wirges, Michael Neumiller, Bailey Colman and Collin Hoffard.
Honorary pallbearers were all of Betty's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Highland Cemetery in Fairfax, SD.
Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
Clausen Funeral Home of Burke, SD was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born on Saturday, June 25, 1932 near Fairfax, SD to John and Emelia (Wolf) Odenbach. She was the youngest with four brothers and grew up on the family farm in the Missouri river hills northwest of Fairfax. She attended Spotted Tail Rural School near the farm.
On Saturday, July 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Herman Chris Neumiller in Yankton, SD. Together they purchased their farm southwest of Naper and lived there for 64 years before their home was destroyed by fire on Dec. 16, 2014. To this union five children were born.
Betty and Herman then lived at the Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson. Betty Mae and Herman were married for 66 years until Herman passed away on May 8, 2017, Betty Mae continued to live there until her passing on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020 at the West Holt Hospital.
Over the years, Betty was involved with the Extension club, Naper VFW auxiliary, TOPS and 4-H club.
She sold Avon, worked in laundry at the Butte Nursing Home and finally at the Naper Grocery Store.
Betty Mae was always crocheting and knitting. She made numerous baby blankets and hundreds of pairs of slippers. She enjoyed dancing, cooking and her many cats and dogs, but most of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by four children Dale (Sandy) Neumiller and Hale (Janet) Neumiller, all of O’Neill and twins Darcy (Darrell) Hoffard of Sac City, Iowa and Dion (Rebecca) Neumiller of Broken Bow; six grandchildren Melissa Neumiller and Melinda (David) Wirges, all of Norfolk, Tygh (Alex) Goochey of Ainsworth, Michael Neumiller of O’Neill and Collin Hoffard and Caleb Hoffard, both of Sac City, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren Bailey Colman, Harliegh Colman, Kailey Wirges, Braeden Wirges, Emma Wirges, Kinsely Wirges, Maddie Wirges, Brielle Wirges, Amelia Neumiller, Kira Goochey and Haisley Goochey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Betty; her husband Herman; her parents; and four brothers Edmond, Harold, Benjamin and Harry.
