West Holt Dance Team & Band

The West Holt Huskies dance team and band members march during last year's parade in downtown Atkinson. This year's parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

ATKINSON — The 79th Atkinson Hay Days celebration will be hosted from Aug. 16-18. The theme of this year's parade is "One Nation Under Hay." 

Friday's events include Ribs by Scott Fix from 10 a.m. until gone across from Speedy Mart. 

The Alley is offering $2 bowling from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday, 6-10:30 p.m. Saturday and 6-9 p.m. Sunday.

Atkinson Lions Club is sponsoring the Ranch Rodeo starting at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights at the rodeo grounds.

The Hay Days Coronation Dance will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday at the Atkinson Community Center. Coronation will be at 10:30 p.m. Sponsored by Atkinson-Ettes. 

The treasure hunt first clue will be given and Mr. and/or Mrs. Hay also will be announced at 10:30 p.m. during the dance. Sponsored by Atkinson Hay Days Committee.

Events on Saturday kickoff with the Atkinson Fire & Rescue's fun run, walk and bike ride. Race begins at 7 a.m. at the fire hall. 

A breakfast buffet will be hosted from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Atkinson Senior Center. 

The Hay Days Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. downtown. 

Carnival type games will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the city park. This event is sponsored by Little Huskies Wrestling committee.

The West Holt volleyball team will be hosting a dunking booth from 1-5 p.m. in the park. 

Free swimming will be offered from 1-6 p.m. at the Atkinson City Pool.

St. John's Lutheran Church will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs from 5-8 p.m. at the Cowboy Trail Shelter downtown . 

Cruise night, sponsored by Peterson Farms, Atkinson Hay Days committee and Brad and Connie Smith, will be from 7-10 p.m. in downtown Atkinson. 

The 10th annual movie night will be held at dusk in the east parking lot of Sandhills Guest House Motel. Free admission and popcorn. 

Sunday's events will begin with a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at Atkinson Knights of Columbus Hall. Church in the city park will be at 8:30 a.m. 

Painted turtle races, sponsored by Silver Star Photography, will begin at 1 p.m. north of the swimming pool. Kiddie train rides will be from 5-7 p.m. by the city park. Sponsored by Atkinson Fire and Rescue. 

The free community barbecue will begin at 5 p.m. at the city park. Sponsored by Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce.
