ATKINSON - The 7th Annual Parade of Lights will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 in downtown Atkinson. Numerous events are planned prior to the parade kickoff at 6 p.m.
New this year is a performance by the West Holt Public School Band under the direction of Eric Dalaviras, a Children's Coloring Contest for K-6th grade youth with prizes to be awarded in each age group and a "Take Your Picture" booth. Sandhills Wellness will have its doors open to offer parade visitors warmth and access to restrooms. Several vendors also will be on hand.
3:30-5 p.m. - Open House at the Sturdevant-McKee Museum Free hot drinks will be served outside during parade activities
4 p.m. - Kloppenborg horses will begin underslung rides with riders sitting on hay bales
4 p.m. - Bingo at Atkinson Senior Center
4:30 p.m. - Chili and chicken noodle soup and dessert served at Knights of Columbus Hall
4:30 p.m. - Coloring contest pictures displayed
4:30 p.m. - Photo booth opens
5 p.m. - Live manger scene
5 p.m. - Reading of Jesus' birth as recorded in the Bible
5 p.m. - Community Chorus sings
5 p.m. Lighting of Christmas Tree
5:30 p.m. Band concert in city square
Bouncy ball drop in Main Square following band performance.
5:50 p.m. - Parade participants line up in front of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. No registration is required.
6 p.m. - Parade of Lights with announcer Erik Olson
Following the parade, Santa arrives on Atkinson Fire Department Truck.
