The Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award was presented Thursday night, August 6 at the Holt County Fair.
The Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award is sponsored by the AKSARBEN Foundation and Nebraska Farm Bureau. To be eligible for the Farm Award the requirements are:
• Farm must be a minimum of 40 acres that continues to operate as a farm or ranch.
• Same family must have continuously owned for a minimum of 100 years.
• Ownership from original buyer has passed through children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews through marriage or adoption.
Here is the history of the Tasler Farm.
Antone A. Tasler was born in Czechoslovakia on Nov. 24, 1863. He was two years old when he came to America with his family.
They settled in Ringgold County, Iowa for several years before moving to Holt County, Nebraska. Antone was one of the earliest settlers in the farming and ranching territory southwest of Atkinson.
Antone A. Tasler was united in marriage to Caroline (Cora) Mlinar on Aug. 16, 1886, in Atkinson. Antone and Caroline (Cora) had six children Fred, Anton J., William, Clarence, Charles and Matilda (Tillie).
On June 23, 1919, Anton J. Tasler (born in Butte in 1891) and his brother William F. Tasler (born in Atkinson in 1893) purchased 320 acres for the amount of $700 or $8.75 per acre southwest of Atkinson in Green Valley Township.
On Nov. 1, 1919, William Tasler married Amy (Hoffman). To this union three children were born Dewayne, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Schaaf and Mrs. James (Evedene) Boettcher. William and Amy engaged in farming and ranching, William also did carpentry work until his death on Oct. 4, 1964. Amy passed away on Nov. 3, 1979.
On June 8, 1950, Dewayne Tasler married Donna (Herrington), to this union there were five children born Wayne, Jeanette, Jerry, Mrs. Kevin (Deb) Krammer and Anthony Tasler.
On Dec. 28, 1976, Dewayne and Donna Tasler purchased the ranch from Amy Tasler. Dewayne and Donna continued to farm and ranch and run a dairy farm. Dewayne also did electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. He also worked for a larger hog operation for over 30 years. Donna passed away on Dec. 4, 2019.
On April 20, 1981, Jerry Tasler purchased the ranch from Dewayne and Donna. Jerry continued to operate the ranch and also worked with plumbing and electrical. Jerry served in the U.S. Army and National Guard for over 30 years.
On Sept. 27, 1996, Jerry married Elaine (Wurtele) and to this union two children were born Jacob and Jordan. Jerry and Elaine continue to reside and operate the ranch.
