O'Neill business man and attorney Boyd Strope was recently elected to the troubled Nebraska State Fair Board. New board member Boyd Strope of O'Neill, whose first meeting was Friday, was elected treasurer in a 6-5 vote.
With four new members, the board has now turned over more than half its seats in the past year either through resignations or retirements.
The fair has seen financial woes which were magnified with the weather and the decreased attendance. In December the board members learned the 2019 fair lost a projected $1.4 million and later board resignations and concerns of lost data from erased computers plagued the board as well as accusations of violating open meeting laws.
The board hopes to bring new hope to the fair with the election of new officials and new ideas.
